VICTORIAN POSTCARD TILES - Inspired by postcards that were so popular in the early 1900's.
The "Stork Delivering Baby" tile was originally created by Arthur Osborne for the JG Low Art Tile Co. of Chelsea, MA, circa 1883. In 1999 L'esperance Tile Works was asked by Sheila Menzies and Joe Taylor, of the Tile Heritage Foundation, to reproduce it as their annual Tile Award. It was presented to the children of Barbara White Morse, to recognize her many years of research into the JG Low Art Tile Co. Her research lead to numerous published articles in magazines which focused on antiques and collectibles. She was known to many people as "The Victorian Art Tile Lady", and her recurring column in the monthly magazine, The Spinning Wheel, was called "Tiles to Treasure" Both of these inscriptions were stamped onto the front of the original award tile. Only 4 of these tiles were made - 1 for each of her 2 children, 1 for the Tile Heritage Foundations collection, and 1 for L'esperance Tile Works collection. The tile is now available for all to collect and enjoy.
